It’s February and it’s time to celebrate LGBT History Month… We thought we’d celebrate some Liverpool LGBT history, so here is a little overview of some of the significant milestones in Liverpool’s LGBTQ+ history, starting in the 1800s.
Starting with the Victorian era where the criminalisation of homosexuality drove Liverpool City Region’s gay and lesbian community underground… here we take a look at how the community has evolved over recent years. We have seen positive changes and significant milestones on the journey to Liverpool becoming one of the most inclusive cities in the UK.
As we move to the present day, we are supporting the message of Pride beyond Pride and are proud of the positive journey our city has taken.
